Sharp-shinned or Coopers Hawk? (1 Viewer)

Cooper's: stout legs, heavy bill, shorter outer tail feathers (just visible) :t:


Also, Sharp-shin isn't mapped as wintering this far north.

I agree that this bird is a Cooper's; however, Sharp-shinned Hawks do winter in low numbers in southern Ontario, as a look at eBird's range map will confirm.

OK! I was going by the map in Sibley, which shows them clearing out of that part of Canada. Could be changing with global warming of course :t:
