Kingfishers....... (1 Viewer)

Has anybody noticed fewer Kingfishers around? (am aware that they disperse from breeding grounds out of season).

It's one of those birds that has always been relatively local to my abode, however...because they were only seen occasionally, perhaps like a number of specialist species, any ''real'' decrease would not be noted for sometime.

I would certainly hear them more often than seeing, (haven't made local contact for perhaps 5 years,) although the question is aimed nationally...I'd be more interested if a ''local'' decline (SE.) is taking place?

Cheers

Hello Ken,
I am a kingfisher spotting nut and just checked BTO which gives Britain and Ireland spotted data. Their members sightings for Kingfisher for this year are up 50% compared to 2012 and 2013 and 70% up on 2011. It also has a 'species by location' where you can enter your post code and it will tell you if a kingfisher has been sighted in your area for the past 4 years. https://www.flickr.com/photos/88816303@N08/

Hi Ken, where are based then or where is your patch?
I'm quite lucky as I live in and visit both Birmingham and Essex for work and have found kingfisher less than a mile away from me in both areas.

Mostly Epping Forest...perhaps I should get out more (although I'm out a fair bit..most days).

Cheers
