Camargue in Oct? (1 Viewer)

Hi, we´ve got some unplanned familily holiday time for the first half of October. My wife´s got the idea of South of France and Camargue in particular, and as this is a birdy place, I´m inclined to accept :)
Still, ist October a good time to be there? Is a lot of hunting going on there? Can Spectacled Warbler still be seen then?
And, any ideas for good birding spots in Ocotober between Lyon and the Camargue?
Thanks for some opinions!
Florian

I posted the same question in the France subsection here: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=350290

As its a bit late for the best of the migration and a bit early for many winter visitors maybe go further south - it'll be warmer! The Algarve could be a choice (I know I'm biased) - and October migration is great at Sagres and likely Spectacled Warbler (they stay late here). Also early October sees the Sagres Bird Festival http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=350096

Thanks Simon! Yes, I considered Algarve already, and we'll certainly go there sooner or later. But this time we'd like to go somewhere in driving distance ...

Actually, just after I posted I saw that you are in Switzerland....and thought you would probably be driving.

I'm glad Mono has raised the spirits o:D

We stayed a bit further north in October at St Remy with just a couple of trips into the Carmargue.

There is a lot of up to date info on faune-paca.org

I would receommend visiting Le baux de Provence and surrounding area. We had Blue Rock Thrush here, Bonellis
eagle etc. - The radar station and hills used to be good but most of the little tracks are closed off now so there is some hefty walking.

Also Le Crau and the milatary base at Istres. I don'ty have any specirfic info but my father had Citril Finch on the way up to Mount Ventoux.

Should be a lot of waders around St Marie. We had one lonely Roller around and abouts but most of the summer visitors have gone. We had Caspien Tern not far from the town. There should be an odd Lesser Flamingo around. Also generally things like Broad Billed Sand, maybe a Pectoral....

Or use this to search historic info and thereby 'hotspots'.

Many thanks Rosbifs! Wasn't sure which of the many French ornitho sites is the right one, so thanks for the link!
