I think this is a rock pipit I snapped this morning, but is it? What do you think?

Certainly is.

Though not safely diagnosable in autumn unless very extreme, I find birds that look like this in autumn moult into full-monty littorlalis birds by March

Its got a good super and white wing bars.

Thanks Daniel and Jane. I had to do an internet search for littorlalis Jane. If I understand this correctly, the bird in the pics is the Scandinavian variety of rock pipit, rather than the British one.

Yep. A lot of the Scandinavian birds come to Britain in winter, and are often found in grassy / saltmarsh habitats, rather than typical rocky coasts and cliffs that our breeding birds prefer.

Adding to my pipit collection, I got this shot today. Is this a meadow pipit, do you think?

Agree Meadow Pipit, MadScientist. Uniform pale-buff ground colour of underparts, well-streaked flanks, pale legs, shortish bill.

As it happens you can also see the long hind claw in the photo, that rules out Tree Pipit and OB Pipit, the two other compact pale-legged pipits.

Well, more pipit fun. At least I think it's another pipit. 3:)

This one flew past me today. I'm guessing meadow pipit, but I'm not at all sure. What do other people think?
