St Helena birding, RFI (1 Viewer)

There is only one bird you MUST see on St Helena: the critically endangered St Helena Plover (or Wirebird). The location should be in Shihirai's book - I'll look it up.

According to one of my Christmas presents (A guide to the birds of St Helena and Ascension Island, by Neil McCulloch), the best site for St Helena Plover (known locally as Wirebird) is Deadwood Plain, which appears to be about 3km east of Jamestown, but a few km further by a looping road. About 25% of the bird's poulation is there. They can also be seen easily at the Longwood golf course (SE of Deadwood Plain), but are sometimes absent from there.

The cliffs around Jamestown are good for seabirds, including White (fairy) Terns.

Good luck, and I'd love to hear how you get on,

Larry
