Gull ID, Pennsylvania (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I was fishing today in Pike County NE PA and found this lone gull. Was wondering if it can be id'd from these pictures. At first I thought it was an osprey as it was coming head on but it turned and I realized it was a gull.

Thanks,
Matt

It looks like a 2nd winter Amer. Herring Gull in the following characters:

a) Dark outer primaries
b) Pale patch on inner primaries
c) Though underwing is shadowed, it still looks rather dark
d) Dark terminal band on tail
e) Pale rump

Those are awfully blurry and impressionistic images, though, and my understanding of gulls is rather similar.

Thanks Will' I'm not too good at gulls either. These photos are pretty cropped sa it was pretty far away so I apologize for it. I did think herring gull at first on size alone.
