Got a couple of photos of this hummingbird this evening. Pretty confident it's not an Anna's hummingbird - which is what I predominantly see here.

Looks like Allen's, but looking at Sibley seems could be Rufous. But looking at range maps Allen's seems more likely.

I am with you in saying most likely Allen's but could be rufous

This time of year in Monterey you are safe enough calling it Allen's Hummingbird.
