Bird feeders (1 Viewer)

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum (y)
We're glad you found us and please join in wherever you like. ;)

Yeah, other birds flying around a nest box to get to the feeders close by can become a problem. Try to move the feeders further away if you can.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

Do you mean that people shouldn’t use feeders to feed birds?

We feed the birds all year round here.

Hi, welcome to the forum. There is a problem with avian pox in some parts of the US right now. When it is around, or you think a bird that visits your feeders are sick it is best to take them down for a while and sanitize them prior to putting back up.

Lot of talk about not feeding birds via feeder . Can anyone comment on this

My understanding is that it's fine to feed via feeders if you do so responsibly: keep cats indoors, put up anti-collision measures on large windows and glass doors, sanitize the feeders regularly, clean up spilled/uneaten/wet seed so it doesn't get moldy, keep them stocked with fresh, quality food/water.

Birds won't become dependent on the food and the risk of disease transmission should be limited if it's kept clean.

The American Gold Finch will feed from any type that they actually can access the offering. I have a wide variety and their favorite as most wild birds is the common platform. I do make my own...note: critical to any feeder choice is the canopy and the placement of that feeder in relation to the canopy.
