Hi, so I found a blackbird fledgling in the middle of the road outside my house this morning, looking a bit dazed and confused- if I’d have left it it would have been squashed within minutes.

Anyway, I picked it up and it looked as though it was almost dead so I put it in a box and put it in the back garden as we had to go out. When I returned a couple of hours later I opened the box and it flew out!!

I had planned on putting it back out the front-(not on the road) so the parents could find it but it flew over the fence. It seems happy enough but will the parents find it/can it survive on its own?? Thanks

Hi Blackbeardbird and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. It will be fine now I think. You really did the right thing. We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds, which may answer some of your other unasked questions too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

Another time, you could leave the box open so it could fly off once it had recovered rather than be trapped 🙂
