Can I upgrade the Nikkor 70-300mm lens? (1 Viewer)

With a teleconverter?

I have the D5300 that came with this lens Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f4.5-6.3G ED VR

Now that I`m getting into the birding scene a bit more, I was wondering if a 2 x teleconverter would work? Like this one Nikon TC-20E AF-S Teleconverter III | Wex Photo Video

I see that as something that would be a lot cheaper than buying a new and bigger lens.

Would it actually work and would I get much benefit from it?

The 70-300mm lens is not compatible with that TC.

I must apologise. I listed the wrong lens in the OP. I was speaking from memory and got it wrong. It`s this one I have Nikon 55-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S DX VR Lens | Wex Photo Video

But on further research, even if I got a TC to fit, it may not be the best option.

Unfortunately not a good match...
With TC2 you'll loose two stops... and IQ a lot more.
As I said elsewhere learn to be closer to the action, and the best spots.
