Canon AE-1 PROGRAM SLR & Additional Lens - Any Ideas on Value please? (1 Viewer)

Hi

I am not a photographer, but due to my love of wildlife a member of my family asked me if I had any idea how much their old camera is worth (they assumed I would know).

They have the following;

Canon AE1 Program SLR with standard lens
Tokina 100mm-300mm f/5.6 zoom lens
Tokina 1.5 Tele-Converter

Does anyone have any idea what the above is worth - all in excellant condition.

Many thanks for any help/info.

John

I’ve no idea what they’re worth however I suggest you do what I did when I recently sold a large quantity of camera gear - go onto Ebay, check the prices for which “sold” items were sold for and work out the average price.

I would think the AE1 is quite sought after, the Tokina lenses less so.

Thanks Anon2020. Yeah, that was my next step but was hoping someone on here would have a rough idea. I take it Tokina lenses are not the greatest then.....? Thanks again.

I did work in the photographic trade many years ago and was also a keen photographer.

I would say that Tokina lenses were decent quality mid-range independent lenses but not on a par with Tamron or Vivitar for example.

You should also check whether the foam light-proofing strips in the camera have not degraded as the camera will be almost 40 years old and make sure the battery has not leaked and damaged the camera.

Thanks once again Anon2020. I will check the strips you mention. I know the battery was removed at the time it ceased to be used so thankfully they dont need to worry about that! Cheers.
