Common Sandpiper reconfirm - Hamburg (2 Viewers)

Back in June 2018 I found a strange Common Sandpiper as shown in the attached photos.

Is my ID correct?
Why so dark?

Hello Fritz,

I agree with you, its a Common Sandpiper. I think, its some kind of dirt/soiling.

Altough a slightly different case, you will remember the note from Peter H. Barthel: "Cauterized Common Sandpiper Actitis hypoleucos feigning Spotted Sandpiper A. macularia" where a abraded/worn (thus with a short tail projection) Common Sandpiper with brght bare parts suggested its rare nearctic cousin."
