A guy from the inland fisheries had an osprey at Baltray around 12:30 yesterday - the previous day a "harrier like bird" was seen mobbing a cormornat in one of the ponds between Baltray and Termonfekin.
5-6 White Wagtails at Balaggan Point around lunchtime today feeding in the seaweed also several Northern Wheatears and 6 Tree Sparrows + a few Common Terns offshore
Checked at Baltray this morning but didn't see any sign of the Osprey. Tommy snapped these photos of a Willow Warbler and a rather mottled Robin in our garden this morning.
Got word that an Osprey was seen at Baltray this morning, so went straight out and spent 2 hours there, but no joy. Spoke to Dominic out there who said that he saw what he thought to be a male hen harrier there on Wednesday.
anybody know the background to the report of two ospreys at baltray yesterday? Worth following up if we apply for funding for an osprey nesting platform...
We are hoping to run the annual Little Tern end of season BBQ at the last weekend on September, weather permitting. All like minded souls welcome. Will confirm closer to the date.
1Common Swift near Aclint ,County Louth this evening.
Thanks to everyone for coming to the show on monday evening!
Today an amazing irruption of butterflies along my lane with dozens of painted ladies, red admirals and peacocks + loads of silver Y moths! No birds though...
I have two spots left on our pelagic - heading out intot he irish sea on sunday at 2pm from port oriel, clogherhead, returning 7pm - please send me an email if anybody is interested? [email protected]
Eight of us went on a pelagic of the Irish Sea today from Clogherhead. I for one had a most enjoyable day and althought the birds were not very numerous at times, the quality certainly made up for the lack in quantity. Stars included 1 Great Shearwater, 1 Pom skua and 2 Great Skuas. A special thanks to Eric Demsey for his sharp observational skills, Breffni for organising and the ever helpful Oliver who piloted the boat.
Just mobile photos of a new Tortuga found near the house which I would not have been handling if I had known it was a water Tortuga or also known as a snapping Tortuga as they can give a hell of a bite. I wasnt long putting him down and Carlos the following morning dutifully placed him back outside the villa nearby where he found him. Actually someone stole his little third Tortuga recently which he is very miffed about and I think this was carried home to replace him. Talk about musical Tortugas ..........
