Decent numbers of Cuckoo's on the upland Durham moors - nice to see a trio squabbling with each other which allowed me to get in position and click away to my hearts content :-O

Thanks...

... to two birders who were at the Common Rosefinch yesterday evening c. 20:00hrs. One had a mate called Steve who he rang for directions to where the bird was, the other was able to do a Dr Dolittle and whistle to get the bird, coincidentally or otherwise, to call back. If you're reading this, you will know who you are. Had a Tawny Owl calling there too. Bonus!

A couple of closer shots of the Whinchat from today - no sign of it feeding young, however I did manage to see the female for the 1st time today!

What an attractive bird Ian. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely photos of the Whinchats. The second captures the scene particularly well. :t:

I took a trip out to the moors north of Stanhope yesterday and got very close to a family of Red Grouse.

Spotted Flycatcher, a nesting bird I've watched for a couple of weeks in a tree cavity. Nest material just a little moss and eggs spread untidily maybe a young female from last year. Yesterday the eggs where still spread untidily and cool (last week they where often cool but bird still sitting) but one egg was missing. I'd thought that a predator would have taken all the eggs. I've often wondered if there were still egg collectors around?

Female not present when i passed the nest site twice today Michael - may be coincidental, but i suspect she has deserted the nest.

However a male Redstart feeding chicks only 50 yards away from our other nest site - unless the original site chicks have fledged and he's still feeding them?
