First time poster...pretty sure there is a flock of fieldfares over the gardens I can see in Catford South East London. I couldn't get a good enough photo but wondered if others had seen these.

Were they bigger than a blackbird and looked like this 1671284714603.jpeg
or smaller than a blackbird and looked like this1671284803208.jpeg
…..also do you live near farm fields?

Second pic, redwing, is most likely in a suburban garden especially if not near farmland.

Welcome :)

Welcome :)

Excuse me? Winter Fieldfares are seen in peoples Gardens and towns. It is a migratory bird and I have seen them in towns such as Nairn, Aberdeen, Stornoway, Newcastle, Norwich and Reading.

They definitely come into gardens, but are more likely if fields are nearby, that’s all, just trying to help.

Thanks for the posts back...they are bigger than a sparrow but similar in colour light underneath darker on back...they are rounder and fatter in appearance than a thrush and blackbird. They are definitely in a flock and a group were in the fallen apples in nextdoors garden.

I just can't get close enough and don't have glasses to see red on the wings.

Hi edveasey and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Saw these through my window just now. Redwings :) Also spied a nuthatch and goldfinch.

Hopefully you will get some bins for Christmas :)
