Fotodiox Adapter - Panasonic G / Nikon Lens (1 Viewer)

I bought the Fotodiox Nikon adapter for my G1, primarily for digiscoping use. I thought I would also experiment with my longer Nikon lenses on the G1 to see if there were any benefits, particularly if the longer effective reach with the G1 appeared to be beneficial. I first tried my Sigma 150 - 500mm Nikon mount lens, but that lens doesn't have an aperture ring and the Fotodiox adapter doesn't allow you to control the lens aperture. Results with that combo weren't satisfactory. However, I also have a Nikon 80 - 400 and that lens has an aperture ring. On the G1, this combination has an effective reach of 160 - 800mm. I believe reasonable results can be achieved, but you give up autofocus and cannot benefit from the image stabilization built-in to this lens. I can't see using this combination regularly, but it might be useful in certain situations. Here is a sample shot:
