grasshopper warbler expert wanted (1 Viewer)

I do handle Grasshopper & River Ws few individuals per year and I have discussed with ringer, which has ringed about 100 grasshoppers.

Yes, grasshoppers vary a RELATIVE lot and also Lanceolated vary a quite lot, especially in the underneath. Danish GW was very streaks individual.

Most of GW's throat, breast and belly and flanks are without streaks or it has small black tips/pots in the breast. I must study more the subject and maybe I can give you more details about your question.

Hi again - and thanks for all your answers/replies. My friend ("ex-friend) - the bastard - sent me these adresses with pictures of Lanceolated warblers:

Number two from april - four from july and five from april

He's point is that some of these birds seems to have much lesser streaking than the one I photographed and some of them even whitish on the throat!

There was a Grasshopper Warbler in Norfolk a few years ago that was very pale and had only a few streaks. Lots of people thought it was a Savi's Warbler.

Oh, the shame... I twitched that.

This link belongs to my friends and we three ringers have ringed totally 5-6 Lanceolated Ws.

I'm now the owner of one more bottle of Highland Park. My friend gave up - most because of your posts and partly because a row of new pictures. As shy it was on the other day - it was the opposite the other day. It was sitting just 5 meters from the road (with lots of cars driving fast) - just singing and posing to my camera. As it was quite dark - the pictures was taken with ISO 3200 - so some noise are present - but still good enough to convience my friend. Thanks Canon - and thank you all for your replies

Lanceolated's song is maybe the mix of GW's and RW's songs, and we have been some records here in Finland, where odd RW's song has resembled quite lot LW's song.

Some birders observed first LW in this year here in Finland.
Bird is one of the most earliest observation of the bird, if accepted.
Mainly LWs comes here in last week of June and in July.
Maybe these birds are non-breeders male.
