Hawk ID - Mass, USA (1 Viewer)

Curious what you're seeing that leads you to that conclusion.

Isn't the band too high?
It seemed much too small to be a red tail, also.

My initial thought was a broadwinged.
But I'd like to know why/why not.

Thanks.

The uniform dark upperparts, sparsely marked underparts, no visible pale or dark bands on secondaries is a good indication for a Broad-winged Hawk.

I agree with juv. Broad-winged. Bird also looks slim and less bulky than RTHA.
The underpart markings with nice darkish spots on the flank fit that species, as does the apparent mesial throat stripe visible in the second shot - typical on many, but not all, Broad-winged's.
