I went to the beach in Toronto today to check out the Piping Plovers, and while there saw a number of gulls. There was a group of about 75 Ring-Billed Gulls, and 4 or 5 Herring Gulls. One of the gulls appeared to be the size of a herring, with the pink legs of a herring, but the bill looks odd. It's pink at the base, turns yellow towards the tip, and then has a black tip on the top. Is this just a Herring with an odd bill? Some sort of hybrid? Something else entirely? Please let me know what you think.
