Hello all…
Nesting in clear box atop downspout under roof. Small couple mostly brown with dark flecks on white chests. Male has bright red crown. Eggs are laid, Dad comes to feed Mom. Sparrow size. What are they?

Hi JB and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I;'ve moved your post to the ID forum as you're more likely to have a name put to your bird there.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Sounds like Cassin's finch, if you're west of the Rockies. Except that male Cassin's chest isn't streaky. Also take a look at house finch, which would be my second guess in the West and my first guess in the East, and has a habit of nesting close to people.
