There is a pair of birds in the tree behind my house eating from the seed pods. I live near Escondido California. I would like to know what they are.

Welcome to Birdforum! I am sure you will find lots to interest you here, and I hope that you enjoy your visits.

Thank you all for the welcome and info. My mother was a birder and used to "drag" my sister and me out of bed before dawn to tramp through fields and revenes. Here in San Diego area we have the owl boxes which are endlessly fascinating. Watched Molly and McGee and their two clutches and now am loving Mel and Sydney who just hatched the 6th owlet. I've learned so much about barn owls.
