Hubby and I love our birds, but we are gutted to say we have just disturbed a goldnfinch nest. One of which I’d never seen before, it’s beautiful. Our neighbour asked us to cut back a bush, and we were doing so and I got the loppers? And it was a thick stem then as I pulled it out I realised there was a nest with a couple , at least, of fledgelings in it we immediately put it back and put a few stems back around it. We left the scene pretty quickly, and hurrah mum and dad look like they’ve come back now we are out of the garden. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 hope they will be ok

Hi Janet and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. These thing happen and it appears that you've rescued the situation so well done. Just keep a distant eye on things to make sure that chopped branch doesn't fall as the nestling get bigger and more active.

You can read more about Goldfinches here in our Opus article: European Goldfinch - BirdForum Opus

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. Happy to hear that mom and dad returned.
