Quite simple really. I'm looking for information on whats the best options are for a mid priced macro lens for my d7500.
Im leaning towards close up macro shots of flowers, parts of flowers, insects etc.

So far the one I think suits is

SIGMA 105MM F/2.8 EX DG MACRO LENS - NIKON F MOUNT.

But I am rather clueless to what's what really.

Thanks in advance.

This is what I use other same camera Clarence but not often, great lens for the price 👍

I had the Sigma 180mm Macro, I forget which exact model as they revised it over the years. That was a really nice lens, I also had the Nikon 105mm macro VR afterwards. The 180mm was certainly easier for Butterflies and Insects than the 105mm.

If you want to spend less and still got stunning macro shots, look for the Tamron SP 90mm F2.8 Macro. There are a few models,
but avoid 1,2,3,4,
True 1:1 macros start with model 72B , no. 5, so any model from no. 5 onwards would be a good choice, but the models 72B 72E 172E will be cheaper than anything later, obviously and your Sigma 105, but you lose nothing in ability

I have model 7 , the 172E.

  1. Model 52B: Tamron 90 / 2.5 SP TELE MACRO 1: 2 BBAR MC1979 Adaptall-2
  2. Model 52B-B: Tamron 90 / 2.5 SP MACRO 1; 2, 1988 Adaptall-2
  3. Model 52E: Tamron 90 / 2.5 SP MACRO 1: 2, 1990
  4. Model 152E: Tamron 90 / 2.5 SP MACRO 1: 2, 1994
  5. Model 72B: Tamron 90 / 2.8 SP MACRO, 1996 1: 1
  6. Model 72E: Tamron 90 / 2.8 SP AF MACRO 1: 1, 1996 Version from this review.
  7. Model 172E: Tamron 90 / 2.8 SP AF MACRO 1: 1, 1999
  8. Model 272E: Tamron 90 / 2.8 SP AF Di MACRO 1: 1, 2004, since 2008 revision 272E NII for Nikon with built-in motor
  9. Model F004: Tamron 90 / 2.8 SP USD Di MACRO 1: 1 VC, 2012
  10. Model F017: Tamron 90 / 2.8 SP USD Di MACRO 1: 1 VC, 2016

I've posted 2 shots i've taken with the 172E on a Nikon

The lens you mentioned is a great option, I have used it personally for a long time and I can confidently say that it gives excellent results. This lens is specially designed for macro photography.
The lens benefits is a fast maximum aperture speed of f/2.8, making it great for low-light settings with beautiful background blur or bokeh. In terms of macro photography, other noteworthy features are its high-quality optics, which deliver sharp, accurate images with excellent color reproduction and durable build quality for outdoor shooting.
Of course, I would also suggest looking at other lenses for the Nikon d7500. You may find another lens that would suit your needs as well.
