greenfinches

They may not be too focused but they're certainly feeding!
I took this shot on either 20 or 21 May using a Kowa TS7 scope and a hand-held Fuji Finepix 2400 digital camera. The exposure is automatic. I have cropped the pic to be 550 x550 pixels so I hope that is within the acceptable size limit. The species is Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris) and they were feeding on sunflower seeds I put on our garden lawn in Surrey, UK. I have fiddled a bit with the sharpness and brightness on Adobe photodeluxe home edition 4.0.

May Competition - Entry #2

Male Ruby-Throated Hummingbird - Fast Food Stop

Date: 5/6/03
Camera: Canon D60 w 70- 200 F4L @200
ISO 200
Flash
Shutter Speed: 1/200
Aperature: F4
Distance: About 6 ft.

The depth of field is < 1/4" when taken with a wide open aperature from this distance, so it can require a fair amount of luck to get a flying and constantly moving around hummingbird in focus. I managed to get several other shots showing better detail within a couple of inches of the feeder, but this was best I could get actively feeding.

Went to my local Mill Pond, River Dart, on one of my rare outing with camera/tripod away from my place. The idea was to start learning to get birds in flight.

Hungry Anhinga

Taken May 2 at Morikami Park near Boca Raton FL. with an Olympus C-700.

380mm Focal Length from about 100 feet
1/160 sec, F/8, ISO 100

He had a bit of trouble downing this guy as you can see here:
http://www.pbase.com/image/16739627
I considered submitting that one, but it just seemed too gross next to all the other beautiful photos being submitted. :)
