Opinions on Canon D60 (1 Viewer)

I am thinking about trading up to a DSLR and I am considering 2 options:

1. Canon D60 (use my current Sigma 400mm f5.6 tele macro).

2. Sell up and buy Canon 10D and a 300 F4 L (to use with 1.4x TC I have already) or 400mm f5.6 L (my current Sigma lens is not compatible).

From what I have read, 10D seems pretty similar to D60 - is it worth a full upgrade? Any advice would be great. Thank you!

The D60, good as it was, is a bit long in the tooth now... there was quite a leap in technology to the 10D as far a AF and general camera responsiveness, the power saving features were also substantially better (battery life) as well as image noise.

Given the age of the D60 (presuming it is a used one), you'd wonder about how much longer its got in it (although an old thrashed out 10D may not be much 'safer' than a good D60)
A used 10D should be worth the extra ££ to a bird photographer imho.

Canon D60...

...the D60 will work very well with your 400mm lens (both from the same 'era').. The 10d will 'probably' not be 100% ( lock up AF etc)...

I had both a D60 and 10D together with the same lens as you at one time and altho' the D60 focus speed was 'slightly' slower (nothing to worry about) the picture / colour was better/smoother (more reaslistic) than the 10D (in my opinion)...

If you've got a good price on the D60 then go for it....

After a year or two look at the SH market again and your 'digital experience' will tell you what way to go...

Get the D60 (if the price is OK) - you won't be disappointed....
