Photos to aim for (1 Viewer)

Hi Iporali. Thankyou for sharing these photos. There are wonderfully evocative and atmospheric images there and the photo Paul has picked out is especially superb. Apart from the bird flight shot though there is nothing there that isnt realistically achievable by any competant photographer. It is great to be inspired by photos such as this but with good equiptment, a little commitment and nudges in the right direction you can do it too. Look at the photographs in the given link and think to yourself "Why are these images good?" and its not just that they are technically good and they use good cameras and lenses. It is that they can see beyond what is in front of them and can see the bigger picture. They capture detail, colours, atmosphere, mood. These are all things that touch our inner senses and inspire us.
If you want to be insprired look at photographs that you really like and next time you go out in the field try to capture it for yourself. Never stop experimenting and trying and never think that you cannot do it yourself.

Cath,

I agree completely with you! But it is also great to see how modern technology has brought a totally new dimension to nature (esp. bird-) photography: never before has it been technically possible for photographers to freeze the moment so well. Like those ants spraying their "acid" or this "bathing" dipper http://www.luontokuva.org/Default.asp?V_DOC_ID=1802 from last year.

Paul: I too love those simple compositions where everything is "just right".

You can see the galleries from earlier years here http://www.luontokuva.org/default.asp?V_DOC_ID=910 and the winners since 1980 http://www.luontokuva.org/default.asp?V_DOC_ID=977 (but only in low-res).

I think the technology in film has been there for a long time but with the advent of digital with bigger, faster and more affordable lenses to the masses has it become easier. Also with the advent of more leisure time people are more able to get out there and dedicate more time to taking such wonderful photos.
