Please ID Sparrow Hawk male/female (1 Viewer)

Hi All

Would someone be kind as to confirm the sex of this Sparrow Hawk we kickname him Harry, who visits our garden daily.

As nobody else has replied yet I will put my head on the block and say that you are safe calling him Harry rather than Harriet. The reddish stripes on the breast indicate a male to me. I was looking at a female Sparrow Hawk on my neighbour's roof a little while ago and there was no red to be seen on it.

I'm not very good at this though so I will wait to see what others say. Nice pic by the way.

Well Roy it looks like you were right and I was wrong:-C so I wonder what mine is? Looks different to yours. I thought it was a Male perhaps someone can confirm for me please.

Thank everyone for your expert advice, I could not argue with Nick but I know you people would solve the problem for us. That bird of Nick's looks different to mine including the super clarity. Harry is active again, he flew through this morning, saw him twice yesterday. I have never seen a female I believe they are much larger than the male.
