Hi there,

This guy showed up yesterday around my office building. Today I took some snaps of him in the morning. It looks like a red-shouldered, but it also looks a bit like a Copper Hawk.

Help!

Thanks and have a nice day!

Hi - Looks like a Red-tail to me - the dark breast band would inicate that - much to heavy a bird for a coopers and a red-shouldered would show a rufous breast and black and white in the wings.

Regards Luke

One thing I've found helpful so far (I'm a rank amateur) is learning the calls. I've got a cd series of bird calls, and identified red shouldered hawks in the area from their repeated kee-ur, kee-urs over & over, rather than the red tail's occasional scream with spaces in between. I had a really good look at red shouldered hawk & never did see a red patch on the wing, but he sat there and repeatly screamed.

I am a beginner though, and could certainly be mistaken on identifications, but the calls do seem to help.
