RSPB Middleton Lakes (2 Viewers)

I note from M.S. photo on twitter, that the Caspian Tern seen today , what a brute, has a yellow ring & metal ring. Has anybody got any idea as to where it was ringed (no letters discernable). The only info I can find indicates Finland!

Does anybody use this Forum anymore? or all reliant on twitter

You seem to have resurrected it mate!

I put a coupla posts and generally do when i visit but the span of notes on the previous page covers quite a period. You can go into more detail on here but ppl want it in 140 characters and they want in now - particularly those that don’t actually spend time in the field and yet expect instant updates.....

Society, obviously, is to blame ;-)

Good birding -

Laurie

Hi Rich

The Tern was sporting a yellow ring with black code LJJ. It was ringed in Finland in June 2019 and has been seen in recent weeks in both Wales and Yorkshire.

Sadly no sign today.

Thanks Phil for the reply. I noted on Twitter today (cant remember whose) giving dates and locations seen.
I also noted this morning that RBA gave the bird as still being at Middleton!!!

Thanks again, Richard

Think it was Kevin Clements?

No reports today. If you were looking the RBA "scrolling headlines" on the Rare Bird Information section then unfortunately it doesn't distinguish between positive and negative news.

I see (on Twitter) that Mike Smiles heard a Wryneck today @FM .Could it be the same bird returning? A Wryneck was seen 19/23 August 2020 and 27 August 2019 or could it be a big coincidence! Any thoughts?

Richard

Middleton looked great today. Highlight was fabulous views of one - possibly two hobbies feeding. As usual I only thought to get a snap at the end of the show! I think there were 2 as we saw one in the usual spot by the bridge, but also one by the feeders at the entrance.

Saw these birds on the other side of the river when I walked round on Monday. Not sure what they are?? There were two of them.
