how is that for an acronym laden title?

anyway a recent proposal to the SACC has a suggestion to recognize two alternative names for species with alternative names in the old world.

The discussion is interesting, in that quite a few points are made that, for all intents and purposes, this globalization movement is of more concern to birders than it is to scientists, and with the recent discussions I thought it would be an interesting item to post

As far as standardization of vernacular names being primarily of interest to birders rather than scientists is concerned, I'm sure that's right. What matters most to scientists are the scientific names which have been "globally standardized" (at least aspirationally) from the get-go..
