Did a quick sea watch at La Jolla this morning (20/05/2016) and was wondering whether the shearwaters are all Sooty at this time of year? They certainly looked right but a bit far out for a solid ID. Any local experience much appreciated!

Second, I encountered an intriguing Phoebe in the South Bay area (off Attu Ave). Same structure as the Black Phoebe's but much lighter: whitish underside, brown head and wings, darker brown tail, lightish grey-brown back. I'm not familiar with Eastern Phoebe and understand it's not common in the west, but it looks the most likely candidate. Certainly not Say's. Possibly a very light Black Phoebe? Again any local intel much appreciated!
