shrike and leaf warbler help, China (1 Viewer)

Yesterday we visited several islands in the Yellow Sea and photographed this leaf warbler and shrike. The warbler does not look like the common dusky warbler. The pp looks very long. Could it be a Willow Warbler? There is only one photo of Shrike, which is different from the common juv Brown Shrike, is it a Red-backed Shrike?
Thank you very much!

The extensive subterminal marks in a first winter bird should make it Red-backed. I have never seen a Red-backed with such a reddish tail though. So either one of the pure Red-backed with reddish tail or some isabellinus genes in there

Tom, suggest you are overthinking it, I am seeing nothing to suggest isabellinus influence. The tail looks a tad warmer than the uppers which is perfectly OK for Red-backed. A hybrid would be even more unlikely IMHO.

Good finds xuky !

Concerning Redbacked shrike, as said a few individuals in that stage can be rather redtailed, I have seen that myself, this link describes another case in Germany (photos are not as good as yours though and it is in German , so may be not that helpful-sorry)

Agree with IDs on both, but interestingly was sent pics of a Willow Warbler from Chongming on Friday. Still an extremely rare bird in China.
