Also today on the edges of the marsh. What I assume to be a Brown Shrike, as there are many about tending to their fledglings right now, but this one seems exceptionally dark colored. Just a color variation or another species?

Neither am I at this point, but it does seem to match up with this one from yesterday. I hadn't much experience at the time with BS at that time. Possible Bull-headed Shrike? The "scaly" look to the lower body might fit better, but still seems very dark.

Juv. of all sorts are everywhere right now and making for a lot of odd looking adult sized birds.

I think Bull-headed juvenile is not so typically scaly as the others. I have seen one BhS fledgling which did not even look all that different from its parents (From some 30m orso)

Cheers,
G
