Simple silhouette.... Help me learn to ID! (1 Viewer)

You guys are very good, and kind folk. Dealing with people who can't tell a crow from a kestrel from dawn til dusk.... *sigh*

But for learners like me, it's most valuable to get some community help to confirm or otherwise educate my naive IDs...

So, with that in mind, see below silhouette taken today in a local park, high up in a large tree. Nothing special, and didn't get any better view than this.

Now, I'm prepared for you all to say Chaffinch. But I think Brambling. Shorter tail, clearly forked, distinctive shape...

Impressions? Merciless put downs? Advice, is there a better way to tell the difference between finches seen this way?

Many thanks!

Sorry, not a Brambling - there's enough colour in the pic for Brambling to show an orange breast if it had been one.

I'd agree with a female Chaffinch.

Agree with Greenfinch. There is just enough green showing on the photo, the bill is distinctly pinkish and it's got that "chunky" / "heavy" look of Greenfinch.
