Snipe ID (1 Viewer)

I think that 99.9% (100%?) of any transatlantic Wilsons would be missed in the UK. Lets be honest, most of us either list Snipe or Jack Snipe, with the bird(s) in question flying/towering away from us (I find it hard to count them all half of the time!)
Steve.

I also thought the bird on the left was a Wilson's Snipe and the one on the right the Common Snipe. Until recently, we in the USA just called the bird a snipe and when we wanted to be a little more technical we would call it a Common Snipe. Then the powers that be said we should start calling the birds here Wilson's Snipe to differentiate them from the Common Snipe in Europe. Years ago the bird here was called Wilson's Snipe, changed to Common Snipe and now back to Wilson's Snipe. At any rate, any snipe I see here in the USA is going to be a Wilson's Snipe. If a Common Snipe were to "sneak in" I would probably not be aware of it.
