Would like Id on this gull photo take in Southern Ontario Jan. 29 2010 I really find the gulls tough I have check my field guides but still can not get it IDed

Just as a aside at this location-- Windsor Ontario-- there was a Black-Legged Kittiwake and a female King Eider present real nice birds for our area.

These birds are always easier in the flesh, as it is hard to judge size. At 1st blush, the rather massive looking bill suggests Great Black back, plumage better for Lesser Black-back.......lots of dark head streaking, dark underwing, dark greater secondary coverts.

So, assuming the big looking bill is a bit of a red herring, I would say 1st basic Lesser BB.
