SW Florida - peeps, Least Sandpiper? (1 Viewer)

Seen this morning at Lakes Park (somewhat away from the coast). Both Least and Western are supposed to be out of season here during the summer...and it is very summer right now. This group of eight were hanging out with a killdeer, at least a third larger than they were.

All leasts, in a ratty state of molt. Back color and markings, brown breast band. Some photos show a hint of muddy yellow legs. Perfect habitat.

Yes, least sandpipers. Bill-shape, leg colour.
Northern waders typically start turning up again in temperate latitudes about mid-July. Small numbers of non-breeders are liable to be around through the summer.
