[Switzerland] Herring Gull (1 Viewer)

rafnuss

Well-known member
Hello,

I went today to the same place than where this 1w Herring Gull was found :
http://www.ornitho.ch/index.php?m_id=54&mid=412535

I photographed what I am lead to believe to be the same individu. Would you agree ?

I am still not sure exactly how the ID was made and I am seeking your help with that.
The head is indeed a bit darker than the usual Yellow-Legged Gull, but the dark eye mask is still present. I can see that the coverts are more "chequered", but what should I be looking at in the tertials and greater coverts to make the ID?

Thank you very much for your help,

it's the same individual, rafnuss. check bill shape, greater covert pattern, amount of replaced scaps (seems to be quite a nordic bird with mostly juvenile ones) and wide white tertial crescents.
