Hello! Are tailless blue jays a result of genetics? This one has been visiting our patio. It’s the worst pic from our nest cam as he’s pretty skittish. It appears to be full grown.

Hi HBB and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I wonder if he could be moulting them. Usually they drop out one feather at a time (well one each side otherwise they'd be off-balance). So it's unusual to lose all of them at the same time. They should grow back when he completes his autumn moult.🤞
