How strange is evolution? There are many types of herons in the world. We have two here in Western Australia. The Blue/white-faced Heron and the Night Heron.
But although all are waders and look the same, none of them learned how to hunt with this 'cloak and dagger' idiosyncrasy.
When did they learn this? One hundred years ago? A thousand? Since the beginning of time? We can only look and observe this style of hunting taught to the chicks by their parents.

Below are two photos I took down at the lake of our blue heron. The truth be known that they probably would breed together and share the same genes.

And the Nankeen Night Heron. One sees them asleep on posts around the river during the day.
