Top 10 Birds (1 Viewer)

the thing is I can think of at least 10 more I want to include :)

Only 10 Pete. I can more than likely think of another 10 blocks of 10 and that is the birds I have seen. If I were to scour the books on birds I haven't seen I couldn't even guess the number.

I can think of 5 quick ones I would love to see. Cardinal, American Avocet, Black shouldered Kite, Roseate Spoonbill and American Kestrel for their sheer beauty alone plus there are so many American passerines that are real stunners that I am feeling quite overwhelmed by it all. lol

In no particular order after the first:
Oystercatcher
Grey Heron
Kingfisher
White Stork
House sparrow
Tree sparrow
Lapwing
Avocet
Blackbird
Whooper Swan

I'll stick to the ones I've seen too, and in no particular order

Red Kite
Kingfisher
Goldfinch
Siskin
Coal Tit
Robin
Collared Dove
GS Woodpecker
Nuthatch
Swallow

Hmmm , will probably change this , several times , but anyway , here goes ( draft 1 ? ) ....

1 - Bittern.
2 - Osprey.
3 - Greenshank.
4 - Gadwall.
5 - Redpoll.
6 - Barn Owl.
7 - Peregrine.
8 - Bullfinch.
9 - Dipper.
10 - Stonechat.

Well , I think that looks about right , actually ! If you see an 'edited by' in red , you know I've changed it ! ;)

Top Ten Birds

I'm going to try this cold. . . not even going to my life list; right off the top of my head. Of course, this is tonight, tomorrow could be totally different. GREAT QUESTION. These are of the ones I've seen.
Here goes:
(I generally like the more obscure birds of the world)
1) Painted Bunting (Texas)

2) Long-Billed Curlew (Texas)

3) Narrow-Billed Woodcreeper (Pantanal

4) Pink throated Longclaw (Botswana)

5) Oilbird (Trinidad)

6) Green Ibis (Costa Rica)

7) Northern Brubru (Kenya)

8) Emerald Toucanet (COsta Rica)

9) Hooded Warbler (USA)

10) ANY Nightjar/Nighthawk (I love'em)

THis is totally arbitrary; I could easily come up with a different list five minutes later. All birds are cool, and I have a great time with the hobby.
THanks for a good question!!

Fifebirder - I was delighted to see Purple Sandpiper in yours - it is in my Top Twenty and is a great bird.

IanF - we have two the same in our Top Tens, and another three of yours would be in my Top Twenty - I am very pleased that my list is more in synch with some others than I thought it would be!

PS. Tom, although I'm pleased to see Snow Buntings in your list, why do you stipulate winter flocks only? They are great in summer plumage up on the Cairngorms too!
