What do you think our top 5 action priorities should be for conservation of the earths biodiversity, taking into account the overall feasibility of carying them out.

J, here's just one, but it's an important one.

Level the playing field for developing nations to be able to control their own economies and end the dumping of overproduced and over subsidised commodities onto these countries by wealthier nations (eg sugar). This will reduce the need for fragile ecosystems in (mostly) tropical countries to be destroyed in order to produce cash crops for wealthy nations (eg palm oil, in Indonesia).

As i mention on your other exam question thread, it's a long time since i have had to explain these issues in detail, so i've oversimplified here and you will need to do some research (it's gonna be a late night chap!), but i really think that fairness in global trade could have a massive benefit to the conservation of biodiversity.

Another one: encourage home grown eco-tourism - it puts a monetry value on the biodiversity itself, which means that the revenue stays local.

Good luck

Mike
