Some more (very) early sightings from the BDS site:
2/6 Southern Hawker, Derbyshire
5/6 Common Darter, Isle of Wight
7/6 Ruddy Darter, Essex
8/6 Lesser Emperor, Kent
12/6 Small Red-eyed Damselfly, Suffolk
12/6 Scarce Emerald Damselfly, Essex
I finally got to Whixall Moss for the white-faced darters yesterday. They kindly put on a show, including a couple of mating pairs, although the four-spotted chasers were making life very difficult for them.
That visit completed my list of species that appear on the official UK list and which breed in England (a highly artificial list, admittedly, as it allows me to cheat by not counting lesser emperor or southern emerald damsel, neither of which I've seen). I see the lesser emperors in Norfolk were observed ovipositing on Friday, so here's hoping for another species to establish itself...
