Saturday 27th July - morning
A summary of this morning's sightings from myself, John, Vern, Gert and Rob is as follows:
FLASHES
13 Green Sandpiper, 8 LRP, 20 Curlew, 7 Avocet, 56 Lapwing (including 10+ juvs), 2 Dunlin, 3 Canada Geese, 4 Teal, c65 Mallard, 4 Coot, 12 Moorhen, 2 Common Terns, 3 LBB Gulls, good number of Linnets (incl juvs), Little Owl on Hobden Hall Farm, Peregrine on masts.
Large roving passerine flock between the steps and feeding station of c100 birds. Mainly Great / Blue / Long-tailed Tits but also family groups of Chiffchaff, 2+ Willow Warbler (ad + juv), Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, family party of Goldcrests, 2 Treecreeper and of course Willow Tit (superbly captured by Vern). Well worth keeping an eye on this flock over the forthcoming weeks as such groups of birds often attract other waifs and strays - potential for Wood Warbler, Firecrest, Yellow-browed Warbler etc
With rain due early evening there's a chance something else may drop in.
SAILING POOL
Grey Heron over, Grey Wagtail, 3 Greylag Geese
MOORS POOL
1 Oystercatcher, 8 Lapwing (incl the 3 fledged juvs), 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Cormorant, 5 Grey Heron, 135 Coot, 11 Moorhen, Ross's Goose, 2 Mute Swan + 5 cygnets, 17 Canada Geese, 7 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 2 Common Tern chicks still in box, GC Grebe - 5 adults / 1 juv / 3 chicks, Little Grebe - 4 adults and new brood of 3 in Broadmeadow, 27 adult / fledged Tufte Duck, 58 LBB Gull, 3 Herring Gull.
With the increasing numbers of large gulls in late summer its well worth keeping an eye out for Yellow-legged Gulls; will link some sample photos later.
Late news of a Red Kite over the Sailing Pool and a Snipe at the Flashes yesterday afternoon.
