Some info. on a darvic-ringed BHG seen at the Moors Pool last October. As can be seen this is the first time the bird had been reported away from Hosehill Lake, where it was ringed as a nestling in 2022.

I had to check. For anyone else who does not know, Hosehill Lake is in Reading.

90% frozen Moors Pool today, the open part was just by the islands so lots of early birds fairly close. Plenty of Pochard and Tufted plus a single Wigeon which left early on. Three Little egrets popped in briefly. There were clouds of finches, pigeons and Stock Doves next to the west track, also a Brambling amongst them which was good to see.
Cold but bright so a nice morning.

Today's highlights at a 75% frozen Moors Pool + River Salwarpe*

MOORS: Curlew (5), Snipe (1), Lapwing (c60), Shelduck (7), Pochard (8), Gadwall (10), Shoveler (4), Teal (24), Tufted Duck (31), Water Rail,
Little Egret (2), Pheasant, Coal Tit, Siskin (8)* (2) along the east track, Redpoll (1 over), Goldcrest (3)*, Little Grebe (4), Sparrowhawk.
No sign of Barn Owl up to 17.15.

Common Gull and a smart Yellow-legged Gull found by Mike Wakeman this afternoon at Moors Pool

For comparison a handy photo showing the grey mantle of the Yellow-legged Gull (blue) compared to Lesser Black Backed Gull (red) and Herring Gull (green). YLG shade of grey is somewhere between the two others.
