One change that I haven’t seen discussed on this forum is the split in IOC 3.4 of Raja Ampat Pitohui Pitohui cerviniventris and Southern Variable Pitohui P uropygialis from Northern Variable Pitohui P. kirhocephalus.
Looking at the ranges of the three species I notice that Raja Ampat Pitohui is found on the island of Batanta but Southern Variable Pitohui is found on Salawati which is surprising as the two islands are only separated by a narrow channel.
Range of Southern Variable Pitohui seems to be south New Guinea, Salawati, Misool and Aru Isalnd plus the western half of the Vogelkop which seems an unusual distribution. Ranges taken from Clements 6th edition.
Does anyone have access to a map showing the ranges of the three species or further information on this split?
