What bird from this beautiful feather [Essex] (1 Viewer)

Yes, Common Pheasant is a stunningly beautiful bird, only one that has been neglected a bit by birders from other continents than its place of origin in Asia. The way it as been introduced, bred and released in numerous contries in several continents has made it a bit of a symbol of the old fashioned idea that nature can be freely exploited by humans.
As you know, the consequences of its popularity as a shooting object, have - to a large extent - resulted in the demise of huge numbers of birds of prey, owls, crows etc during the past two centuries.

This feather is from the strikingly beautiful male.

Still a victim of the shooting industry, though - they raise pheasant poults by the million in huge battery cages, with no parents to teach them things like road awareness skills. So they get run over in large numbers (far more than raptors ever take!).

You make a good point Nutcracker, however, I can't envisage even a wild pheasant having the nouse to teach it's kids the green cross code :-O
