You could try sending a pm to metcow333, I'm sure he birds around there a fair bit. He should be able to give you some gen.
That is understandable, I remember seeing the red grouse up in cleveland, as you do.
I wonder what small birds the moors hold. Part of me wonders if I should just scope the sea to be honest. That or I could just boat trip from whitby and go for excellent pics of the gannets as they should be arriving in greater numbers soon.
Have a look at Steve Race's work - www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/wpy/images/behaviour-birds/.../true-love.html
I bought True love and it has pride of place in the living room.
I also met Steve at the Centre for Life here in Newcastle.
Seems the link has an error :-(
I edited it to his own site but clearly it hasn't worked, so here we go again: www.steverace.com
Possibly saw a goshawk over the Chevin yesterday. Are they likely to be found here or is it more likely I saw a buzzard? It was quite high above the trees and I only had my eyes at the time and I couldn't follow it very far due to tree cover.
Buzzards are breeding less than 5 miles from the Chevin so I would bet it was a buzzard you saw, nearest gos would be about 60 -70 miles away
You can get sightings reports for northern dales here
Looks like your Diver has a hook embedded next to its bill. It sounds like it is still feeding ok. I saw this bird in December when it had its fantastic plumage. It would be sad if this was the end of it.

Not sure what to suggest. I'm sure it could be treated and released again quite easily, but not sure how the RSPCA would get hold of it.
Has it been reported?
