Yorkshire Birding (51 Viewers)

No sign nor sound of the Savi's this morning. No access arrangements therefore tomorrow morning.

If it shows again, this will of course be reviewed in due course.

Cheers

Went to spurn yesterday and it was a bit quiet + very windy. Saw Glaucous Gull which is a first for me, so i'm chuffed with that, also Little Tern, but only one, has something happened? Had a few hours at Potteric today and finally got to see Cettis Warbler instead of just hearing it

Couple of pics from yesterday;

Went for the Savis and managed a brief glimpse of the bird mid-reel. Probably saw it a number of times in flight as it zipped up and down the reed bed but un-idable (?) from that. Obviously heard it, got an audio recording.

Went on to Hatfield and got a picture for Keith, loads of Ringed Plover and a few Dunlin, a hepatic cuckoo was nice but crashed across the path and disappeared, would have liked a good look at that. Plenty of Yellow Wagtail and a single LRP. Four spot chaser and large red damselfly?

The Moorend carpark was closed, don't really like using it so perhaps for the better, went round to Crowle and saw Tree Pipit just along from the car park, lots of blackcap about.

The rain was getting steadier so decided to head home calling in at Blacktoft. 45 blackwit, lots of avocet nookie and gales.

Jim

Was you any where near ten acre lake?
Thinking of going this week but never been before wouldn't mind a look at the watch tower for hobbies?
Got any gen?
Thanks.

No, didn't go to ten acre lake, you can'i walk round it so didn't bother. The tower is on Thorne moors, I did't get onto the moors there but I'm led to believe there are plenty of hobbies back.

Fabulous set of shots Jim

Could anyone give me some directions or a grid refernce for the Filey Woodchat shrike please? I'm travelling up for the end of the week and it would be a UK tick.

Thank you
Gareth

I just heard that a pair of Golden Eagles had started nesting near Tophill Low. And that they are now regularly seen accross Yorkshire. I am surely having my bells jangled here right?

Intrigued Jim... if the avocet porn was at Blacktoft...what was at Hatfield?

Missed out on the Savi's completely as I've been changing my car and for the last week or so I've been arsing about getting insurance etc sorted.

I was meaning the avocet porn. Should post before wine, more coherent.

Off to watch aggressive avocets on springwatch and then off to bed, up at stupid o'clock and then going for some Black Woodpecker and Nutcracker. Who knows what else?

Not Woodlark then?,

Anyway - to hatfield again today, and finally tracked down said Woodlark - thanks to Jim for putting me onto it.

Also green woody, ringed and LRP, Dunlin, some horny Ruddy Duck (clearly aware of their imminent termination), tripits, cuckoo and the first rural fox I've seen in a long time.

And ..... wait for it Skink - no reptiles - and yes I did have my bleedin' eyes open but twas raining (a lot). No raptors, presumably for similar reasons.

Unpleasantly cold/early dip at Old Moor on Monday am - though nice to see Mat there - Meet at Wykeham for the HB's was mentioned. Would somebody clever care to start a thread?
