Young Birder (1 Viewer)

The American Tree Sparrow. I frequently get them at the feeder. I do hear them sing every now and then, even though they breed up north.

Hahaha, just got confused as I know you get both. Jealous! :-O
Thanks. :)

You can count me in for the yearlist competition. Haven't been able to do a whole lot of birding, but I'm at 79 for my 2012 yearlist and 41 for my 2012 yardlist.

Welcome :t:

Thanks. :)
My yearlist was just upped by two. An Anhinga in Jenkins County and a few Wood Storks in Magnolia Springs. Puts me at 81. :D

A brilliant weekends birding. Yesterday started off at Starr Gate where a pair of Scaup flew wouth as did my first 2 Gannets of the year. Then on to Warton Bank for the high tide which eventually flooded the marsh flushing at least 1 Jack Snipe and also pushed the pipits closer to us allowing us to pick out at least 3 Water Pipit and 2 Rock Pipit. The afternoon was spent at Marton Mere where the female Brambline showed around the feeders, along with 3 Cetti's Warblers singing and several Water Rails.

Today started early to be at Sizergh Castle for 8am. The Hawfinches could be seen flying around the trees however we positioned the car opposite the feed on the ground and around 9:10 4 males and a female came down giving awesome views. A Green Woodpecker was heard calling and gave brief flight views. Finally was on to Leighton Moss where I managed to see the Glossy Ibis after 2 failed attempts already this year.

So 6 yearticks taking me up to 144

I successfully saw the Greater Yellowlegs at Strathbeg today, present on the pools viewable from Tower Pool Hide. At first it showed pretty well although it was a tad distant for photography, but after about half an hour it flew right to the back of the pools and become skulking and distant. A fantastic bird which will hopefully stick around for better views; will likely be up again for general birding next weekend. Other entertainment was provided in form of the usual 3cy male Hen Harrier and a Fox that wandered out onto the pools - surprisingly not causing havoc. A Song Thrush briefly seen this morning + the Greater Yellowlegs takes the yearlist up to 126.

Congratulations again on some great birds guys, particularly Jonny; sounds like you had a great weekend and some fab shots of those Hawfinches mate, very envious :t: .

Its slow progress for me at the moment, with two new birds for the year in the form of Common Scoter and an early Sandwich Tern at Donmouth, the earliest record I've had of the latter species. Highlights on an otherwise quiet day were a redhead Smew and 2 White-fronted Geese at the Ythan. In a couple of weeks I'll be down in Norfolk, which should hopefully produce some good birds. Is anyone else going away for Easter or had any of the early spring migs yet?

Joseph

I've had migrating Redshank at the patch, and others have seen Sand Martins. Hopefully will be down later to catch up with todays new arrivals, Knot and Black-tailed Godwit.

Purple Martin, Cattle Egret, Wood Duck, Northern Parula, Yellow-throated Warbler, and Black-throated Green Warbler put me at 87 as of today.
Possibly 88, but unsure if what I heard was a Peregrine Falcon, or just a pissed off Red-shouldered Hawk.
